You are here Home

Is your joy disabled?

Life with a disability is not easy or fair.   Other people tend to look at the outside, at performance, accomplishment and appearance.  That's not fair, but it is real.

The word shalom (shä-lōm' or shah-lohm) means having an inner peace, well-being and wholeness, experiencing the abundant life in spite of what life throws at you.  This real and abundant life comes through a relationship with Jesus, who knows all about your disabilities - and offers you a life of joy and significance.

God looks at the heart, not appearances.  Living in relationship with God, your joy no longer has to be disabled.  Wishing you SHALOM!

All Smiles!

Chip and Mark know something. Want to know, too?

What do these guys know that you'd want to know?

Think about it...

What does it mean to serve like Jesus?  Who will receive your answer?  Take a look at John 13:1-17.  Wow!

Welcome to SHALOM!

Excavation for the new parking lot at the Shepherd's Barn!

Glad you are here - please excuse the dust as we are under construction!  The web site that is - but so are we - as an organization and as individuals.  Dusty people.  New stuff happening!

Stay tuned and watch the excitement of... dust and stuff.

By the way - thanks for trying the donation button over there.  SHALOM receives no government funding - all private.  It's all about partnership and interdependence - some of life's most precious gifts.  Thank you!

New Sign!

This sign shows the way to the new Shalom office and Shepherd's Barn, which is currently under construction.

Already in the office!  Next is the Shepherd's Barn activity center - Shalom's Community Connection!  After that - we will celebrate and put it to good use!

News Flash!

The major framing on the Shepherd's Barn, Shalom's Community Connection, has been completed and inspected as of February 5, 2009.  We passed!

So what's next?  Electrical work will begin in earnest.  YEA!

Words of encouragement...

Psalm 139:13-16  For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Award winners are...

Tom, Glen, Sara and Julie have each received the Spirit of Service Award. What an honor!

Here are the SHALOM recipients of the Spirit of Service Award given annually to outstanding care providers in Michigan by MALA (Michigan Assisted Living Association).

There's Tom (2007 recipient), Glen and Sara (2008) and Julie (2006).  We are so blessed to have these and so many other quality care providers in the SHALOM Network!

Just like Ephesians 2:10 says - "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."  Way to go, team!

Christmas Party - Three Wise Men!

Billy, Eric and Stan at the SHALOM Christmas party.

What do you know?!?  Billy, Eric and Stanley look like they are up to something.  What's up, guys?  Obviously enjoying themselves at the SHALOM Christmas party!

One hundred plus people gathered to celebrate Jesus and to affirm volunteers and Care Providers.  Who knew these three Wise Men would show?  Can't keep good men away from good times!
